Religious Accommodations

In 2022, the Educational Policy Committee updated their expectations for religious accommodations.

Faculty are expected to accommodate students whose religious holiday observance conflicts with class attendance requirements, paper deadlines, or scheduled examinations. Not all holidays require absence from routine commitments. To see Wesleyan’s Multifaith Calendar, please click here

Students are expected to notify faculty two weeks prior to the religious holiday or as soon as possible if the holiday falls within the first two weeks of the start of classes.  Students who have questions about class attendance and assignments should consult with their Class Dean. Students can use this template when emailing your professors.

Questions about the holidays may be directed to the Director of the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, Rabbi David Leipziger Teva dleipziger@wesleyan.edu; the Dean for Academic Equity, Inclusion and Success, April Ruiz aruiz01@wesleyan.edu; or the Assistant Director of Equity and Inclusion, Debbie Colucci dcolucci@wesleyan.edu.
